Atlantic Beach Rescue Squad operates specialized apparatus to service the emergency needs of its unique beach and marine environment. It members train and drill regularly ensuring that the apparatus is utililzed to its potential in the event of an emergency. In addition to land based medical response, ABRS is one of a few agencies in the counties 2nd battalion with a rescue boat in the water year round. We are able to provide ALS response and transport via water in the event of maritime accidents or waterborne medical emergencies, including patient transport by water directly to Long Beach Medical Center. Atlantic Beach Rescue maintains the Barrier Island Emergency Operations Center and has full interoperability with surrounding first responder agencies. Although Atlantic Beach has a wintertime population of only 3,300, ABRS also provides emergency services to the 15,000-20,000 daily visitors the island receives in the summer months. ABRS response area includes the Nautilus Assisted Living Home, a 300-bed facility for elderly adults that generates many calls. The response area also includes the Atlantic Beach Bridge, a major thoroughfare for residents and visitors traveling to or from the island.
